Product information "Katana - Yubashiri, Lorenor Zoro, One Piece"
Yubashiri - Katana
This decorative is a replica of the Yubashiri which Pirat Hunter Lorenor Zoro (jap. Roronoa Zoro) wielded for a while in the anime One-Piece. The Yubashiri belongs to the Skillful Grade Swords and therefore to the 3rd rank of the sword classification within the anime and manga.
It has an approx. 68 cm long, slightly sharpened blade made of high carbon steel, its tsuka is wrapped with a nylon cord. The unconventional decorative elements on the tsuka and saya are made of gold-anodised aluminium, like the cross-shaped tsuba, while the black-coated saya is made of wood. Lacking the traditional Japanese ornamentation on the simple design, it resembles a Guntō (mass-produced swords for the Imperial Japanese Army) rather than a classic Katana.
The History behind the sword
In the anime/manga, this sword was originally a family heirloom from the Loguetown arms dealer Ipponmatsu.
After Zoro had proved his strength of will against the cursed sword Sandai Kitetsu, Ipponmatsu rushed to the attic of his shop to fetch his family heirloom, the Yubashiri, which he then gave to Zoro together with the Kitetsu.
From then on, it served the Three Swords style swordsman well until it finally met its end on Enies Lobby in battle against Marine Captain Shu, who used his devil power to rust it, turning the sword's blade to dust.
However, Zoro kept the remains of his loyal sword for a while longer, until he finally found a suitable final resting place on the Thriller Bark at the Rumbar Pirates' Tomb.
Please note that this katana was designed as a collector's item or decorative object.
