Celtic Short Sword with Scabbard, 3rd - 2nd Century B.C.
Swords with anthropomorphic hilt are rare archaeological finds. This leads one to assume that such swords may have been ceremonial exclusively reserved to warriors of higher rank. The limited size of these and swords (approx. 50 to 70 cm) further corroborates this theory. However, they were still functional and could possibly have served as secondary weapons to longer swords. The handle's profile remained quite schematic at first, but its human-like form became more graphic in the course of the 2nd century B.C., featuring a head-shaped pommel. The is equipped with a guard made of copper, a brass and bone grip and a steel blade.
This sword is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece and, besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
Details:
- Blade material: EN45 spring steel blade (high carbon steel, not stainless)
- Handle material: copper, brass and bone
