The Main Gauche, also known as left-hand , was often used alongside the rapier, offering additional attack and defence possibilities. The “Schools of Fence” that spread throughout Europe during this period therefore taught the use of these two in combination. Stylistically, the main gauche was often matched to the rapier, but it also had additional features that increased its effectiveness further. The brown cord wrapped grip fits comfortably in the hand and offers enough space to wear fencing gloves if desired.
