Anglo-Saxon Shield with Serpent Motif and Runes, 61 cm
Anglo-Saxon Round Shield with Serpent Motif and Runes, 61 cm Ø The round shield we offer here is made of approx. 13 mm thick plywood and adorned with an elaborate serpent motif and three runes from the Anglo-Saxon runic alphabet known as futhorc. Although the runes are from Anglo-Saxon origin, the serpent motif may be interpreted as a depiction of the Norse Midgard Serpent (also called Jörmungandr or World Serpent), a central figure in Germanic mythology – which makes the shield suitable as a Viking shield. Together with Hel and the wolf Fenrir, the Serpent is one of the world's three tormentors. All three are the children of the malicious god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. Jormungand lives in the depths of the great sea that surrounds Midgard. His body is so exceptionally large that he encircles the entire earth and grasps the end of his tail in his maw. When he awakens and thrashes the ocean, great floods devastate the world of the mortals. At the same time, the serpent biting his own tail is a pregnant symbol of the unity and eternal recurrence of all things. By the third encounter between Thor and Jörmungand at the Ragnarök, Thor succeeds in striking the Midgard Serpent dead with his hammer Mjölnir. The shield boss included in the scope of delivery can be easily attached to the shield using the rivets supplied, and leaves enough space to accommodate even stout Viking hands. The shield’s edge is reinforced with metal, and the back is fitted with a handle made of solid wood. Although this early medieval wooden shield may be slightly too light and thin for full contact, it is still a great accessory for re-enactment, LARP, stage or TV/film and will make your transformation into a proud Anglo-Saxon or Viking warrior just perfect. Besides, it also makes for a nice collectible or display piece. Details: - Material: plywood, solid wood handle, steel boss and edge - Painted with a serpent motif - Diameter: approx. 61 cm (24 in.) - Thickness: approx. 13 mm - Shield boss: overall Ø approx. 17 cm, bulge Ø approx. 12 cm, bulge height approx. 7 cm - Weight: approx. 2.55 kg Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.

Small Scottish Round Shield, Mini Targe
Mini Targe, Small Scottish Round Shield with Brass Fittings The Scottish Highlanders' targe was not only an effective protective device used to block enemy blows, but also a powerful bludgeoning . The hand targe we offer here is a downsized version of the famous Highland targes most known for their use by the Jacobites (the supporters of the exiled Stuart king James II and his descendants) in late 17th/18th century Scotland. Its intricate pattern is inspired by several historical original pieces. Although half the size of a conventional Scottish round shield, this hand-crafted mini targe is as visually appealing as its larger counterparts. Made from wood, it is tightly overlaid with genuine tooled leather fixed with brass rivets all around the edge. The nicely decorated front features a brass boss in its centre. It is elaborately adorned with Celtic style embossments and studded with numerous brass ornaments. The shield's suede-covered back is fitted with a pair of so-called enarmes (arm straps) made of thick, sturdy leather and tightly held in place with brass rivets. This small Scottish targe is just an ideal accessory for re-enactors and collectors alike. Details: - Material: wood and leather, brass shield boss and fittings - Diameter: approx. 28 cm - Thickness: approx. 14 mm - Weight: approx. 680 g Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.

Viking Round Shield with Iron Boss, Wood and Canvas
Wooden Viking Round Shield with Iron Boss Unpainted Shield Blank with Canvas Overlay The large Viking shield we offer here is suitable for light combat reenactment, stage fighting or sparring. This battle-ready round shield is made of 3 layers of MDF wood (medium-density fibreboard) and covered on the front with sturdy, natural-coloured canvas. The fabric is glued onto the wood and has been left blank to allow you to customize the shield with your own colours or designs, should you so desire. With a bit of practical know-how and artistry, you can thus turn the shield blank into an authentic-looking Viking Age shield. The shield's edge is clad with rawhide. Thought to be more impact resistant and durable than tanned leather, rawhide absorbs blows significantly better and will thus extend the life of the shield. The generously sized shield boss leaves ample space to accommodate even stout Viking hands and is tightly held in place with four nails. The wooden shield is fitted with three pinewood reinforcement slats nailed on the back. The central one also officiates as a handle and is rounded in its middle section for a comfortable grip. Details: - Material: MDF wood, pinewood grip, leather (rawhide) edging, steel boss - Diameter: approx. 75 cm - Thickness: approx. 1.6 cm - Shield boss: overall Ø approx. 20 cm, bulge Ø approx. 16 cm, bulge height approx. 6 cm - Weight: approx. 4.3 kg

Viking Shield 'Fenrir' with Rawhide Edging, 80 cm
Viking Round Shield „Fenrir” with Rawhide Edging, 80 cm Ø The large, gorgeous Viking shield we offer here is made of approx. 13 mm thick plywood and adorned with a stylized motif of the wolf Fenrir (also Fenris or Fenrisúlfr) and a sequence of runes from the Elder Futhark (oldest runic alphabet) that spell out his name. In Germanic mythology, Fenrir is one of the world’s three tormentors, together with Hel and the Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr. All three are the children of the malicious god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. Fenrir fights the existing order and ultimately embodies the annihilation of the world. The gods recognize his dangerousness, chain him to a rock with a ruse, and sink him deep into the bottom of the earth. In order for the plan to succeed, Tyr, the god of war, even sacrifices a hand. The wolf is shackled for a long time, until eventually, at the twilight of the gods, he breaks his chains and devours Odin. Odin's son Widar kills Fenrir, but it is too late, the Allfather of the Gods falls and, with him, the order of the world. In its centre, the shield features a generously sized steel boss that is tightly held in place with four rivets, and leaves enough space to accommodate even stout Viking hands. The shield’s edge is clad with rawhide (parchment), and the back is fitted with three riveted reinforcement slats made of wood. The central slat also officiates as a handle and is leather-wrapped in its middle section for a comfortable grip.
