Boar Spear with Sheath
Boar Spear, Hunting Spear by Cold Steel For 200 years, the boar spear reigned supreme as the staff of choice in the European forests and often on the battlefield as well. Only the invention of reliable firearms in the 18th century was able to fade its renown. This hunting spear would have disappeared altogether if not for the decadent tastes of the Northern European nobility: To the gentry, hunting with a firearm was a pale substitute for the thrill of hand-to-hand combat in the forest with nothing but a spear. You too can enjoy the same excitement with Cold Steel's modern reproduction of this classic spear. Cold-forged out of medium SK-5 carbon steel and heat-treated to a spring temper, the massive spearhead is designed to flex under stress instead of breaking. It is sharpened to a good utility edge and features a sturdy reinforcing rib to make it as stiff as possible for maximum penetration. The boar spear comes complete with a stout premium ash shaft and a Secure-Ex® sheath. Details: - Material: SK-5 medium carbon steel head, American ash wood shaft - Overall length: approx. 208.6 cm - Head length: approx. 47 cm - Blade thickness: approx. 2.4 mm - Weight: approx. 1928 g - Incl. black Secure-Ex® sheath - Cold Steel Product No.: 95BOASKPlease note: We do not sell this productd to customers under the age of 18. Boar Spearhead, approx. 50 cm
Medieval Boar Hunting Spearhead, approx. 50 cm The so-called winged or lugged spear, which was mostly used as a thrusting , is actually of Frankish Carolingian origin and continued to see service – as both a war spear and a hunting spear – well into the high Middle Ages. The wings or lugs on the sides were intended both to prevent over-penetration in a strike (which would have made it more difficult to pull the spear out) and to parry enemy blows in the melee. As the name indicates, the boar spear (which appeared in many variations) was specifically designed for boar and big game hunting. The spearhead’s lateral wings were not only designed to stop it from penetrating too deeply into the quarry, but also offered the hunter an additional level of control and protection from an injured, frantic animal. The large medieval boar spearhead we offer here is ideally suited for 8th/9th to 11th/12th c. settings. In terms of design, it strongly resembles the Carolingian winged spears commonly used by warriors and huntsmen in the early Middle Ages. Crafted from tempered EN45 high carbon steel, it is approx. 50 cm (19.75 in.) in length and features an impressively long, broad leaf-shaped blade that would have been able to inflict a deep and wide stab wound and kill a large animal in one single mighty blow. The protruding lugs placed just below the blade on either side of the socket are approx. 4 mm thick. Two pre-drilled holes allow it to be secured onto the wooden staff of your choice to create your own spear. The haft and additional mounting hardware are not included in the delivery. Alternatively, collectors may purchase our wooden spearhead stand (available separately, product no. 1816375000) to display their treasures in style in their armoury. Please note that this spearhead is primarily designed as a collectible, decoration piece or prop and by no means suited for combat re-enactment! The blade’s point is not rounded, and the edges are not sharpened, yet slightly ground (with suitable equipment and the necessary know-how and skills, they may be ground to sharpness if needed). Details: - Material: tempered EN45 spring steel (high carbon steel, not stainless) - Overall length (incl. socket): approx. 50 cm - Blade length: approx. 35 cm - Max. blade width: approx. 6.5 cm - Width at wings: approx. 11 cm - Blade thickness: approx. 5 mm - Length of socket: approx. 15 cm - Inner diameter of socket: approx. 2.8 cm - Weight: approx. 880 g Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece. Game Of Thrones - Red Viper's Spear
Game Of Thrones - The Spear of Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne Officially licensed replica from HBO's hit TV series Game of Thrones® Although Prince Oberyn Martell only appeared in one single season of the TV show, he most definitely left a lasting impression on the Game of Thrones® audience. Both his entrance and exit were quite dramatic in their own particular way, and just a few episodes were enough to establish his character as a fan favourite. A younger brother of Doran Martell, ruler of Dorne, Oberyn was commonly referred to as The Red Viper owing to both his knowledge of poisons and his fierce, unpredictable, often lethal fighting style. His of choice was a long, remarkable Dornish spear with a wavy-edged blade and a spike. It was adorned with a tassel made of snakeskin and two winding serpents wrapped around the spearhead's base. Acting as Tyrion Lannister's champion during Tyrion's trial by combat for the murder of King Joffrey, it was with this very spear (poisoned at the tip) that Oberyn wielded in his brutal fight against the crown's champion Gregor Clegane - a.k.a. The Mountain. But after dealing Clegane what seemed to be a mortal blow, he made the fatal mistake of reveling too soon in his victory... In one last act of violence before his own demise, Clegane managed to overpower Martell and crush his skull with his bare hands, gifting the viewers with one of the most spectacular and shocking death scenes in TV history - a scene which has long achieved iconic status among the GoT community. This replica of the Oberyn Martell's spear is an officially licensed collectible meticulously recreated from the actual prop used on the HBO epic fantasy drama TV show Game of Thrones®. It has been crafted with close attention to detail and no effort was spared to accurately reproduce the authentic features found on the original piece. Strictly limited to 2500 pieces, each spear is serialized and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a wall mount for display. Details: - Blade material: mirror-finished stainless steel spearhead adorned with brass snakes - Handle material: wooden two-piece shaft (threaded), steel butt spike with antiqued brass finish, faux snakeskin tassel (brown leather) - Overall length: approx. 200 cm - Head length: approx. 66 cm - Shaft length: approx. 134 cm - Max. blade width: approx. 10 cm - Weight: approx. 4 kg - Incl. certificate of authenticity and wooden display plaque (incl. mouting hardware) with a silkscreened motif of a sun pierced by a spear, the sigil of the House Martell of Sunspear Please note: We do not sell this product to customers under the age of 18. Large Early Medieval Winged Spearhead, approx. 61 cm
Large Early Medieval Winged Spearhead, approx. 61 cm The so-called winged or lugged spear, which was mostly used as a thrusting and often gets associated with the Norsemen, is actually of Frankish Carolingian origin. Adopted by the Vikings, it continued to see service – as both a war spear and a hunting spear – well into the high Middle Ages. On the battlefield, the protruding lugs on either side of the socket were intended both to prevent over-penetration in a strike (which would have made it more difficult to pull the spear out) and to parry enemy blows in the melee. When used for the hunt (as a so-called boar spear, specifically designed for wild boar and big game hunting), these lateral wings were not only designed to stop the spearhead from penetrating too deeply into the quarry, but also offered the hunter an additional level of control and protection from an injured, frantic animal. The impressively large medieval spearhead we offer here is crafted from tempered EN45 high carbon steel. It is approx. 61 cm (24 in.) long and has approx. 45.5 cm (18 in.) long edges. The wings are approx. 4 mm thick. With such a massive blade, which strongly tapers from a broad base to a long, narrow point, the spear’s wielder would have been able not only to inflict deep and wide stab wounds, but also to deliver hewing and slashing / chopping blows. Two pre-drilled holes allow it to be secured onto the wooden staff of your choice to create your own winged spear or lance. Leaf-Shaped Winged Spearhead, approx. 43.5 cm
Leaf-Shaped Winged Spearhead, approx. 43.5 cm The leaf-shaped spearhead was a recurring design throughout the history of the spear. Used as early as in the Bronze Age, it came in the most various styles across many eras and cultures – from Antiquity to the Viking Age to well into the Middle Ages. The so-called winged or lugged spear, which was mostly used as a thrusting and often gets associated with the Norsemen, is actually of Frankish Carolingian origin. Adopted by the Vikings, it continued to see service as both a war spear and a hunting spear (so-called boar spear, specifically designed for wild boar and big game hunting) well into the high Middle Ages. Both on the battlefield and in hunting, the wings or lugs on either side of the socket were designed to prevent over-penetration in a strike, which would have made it more difficult to pull the spear out. They also provided an effective means of parrying enemy blows in the melee, and offered an additional level of control and protection from an injured, frantic animal. The winged spearhead with leaf-shaped blade we offer here is crafted from tempered EN45 high carbon steel. In terms of design, it strongly resembles the Carolingian spearheads commonly used by warriors and huntsmen in the early Middle Ages, and is thus ideally suited for Viking and medieval settings (ca. 8th/9th to 11th/12th c.). It is approx. 43.5 cm (17.25 in.) long, and its approx. 34 cm (13.4 in.) long blade is reinforced with a distinctive, raised ridge along its centre line for extra rigidity and greater piercing power. The protruding lugs are approx.
