Drinking Horn with Stand
Viking Dragon
Generally made from cattle or goat horn, and used as a drinking vessel in many cultures across different time periods, the drinking horn held great significance, especially for ceremonies. It continued to see service right up until the early modern period, especially throughout Germanic Europe. A particularly popular drinking container through the early Middle Ages in Scandinavia, it enjoyed mentions in both the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda. Although fragments of Viking Age horns are rarely recovered on archaeological digs, the number of preserved metal horn fittings lead to assume that their use was much more widespread than the actual horn finds indicate.
The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved dragon, a popular motif in Viking art.
Whether in a modern home, or for re-enactment purposes in a medieval / Viking setting, this rustic, highly decorative drinking vessel will make for a true eye-catcher on any dining table.
For hygienic reasons, the horn is sealed on the inside with a food-safe varnish so that you may enjoy your favourite beer (or mead) to the fullest.
A convenient, easy-to-carry drinking horn stand made of hand-forged steel is included in the scope of delivery. The principle is quite simple: Just insert the horn through the opening, and the two legs of the stand and the tip of the horn will form a steady tripod, thus ensuring that you can always put your drinking horn down safely.
A great gift idea for modern-day Vikings!

Fenrir, the Norse Wolf
Generally made from cattle or goat horn, and used as a drinking vessel in many cultures across different time periods, the drinking horn held great significance, especially for ceremonies. A particularly popular drinking container through the early Middle Ages in Scandinavia, it enjoyed mentions in both the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda. The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved motif of the wolf Fenrir (also Fenris or Fenrisúlfr). In Germanic mythology, Fenrir, son of the malicious god Loki and the giantess Angrboda and one of the world’s tormentors, fights the existing order and ultimately embodies the annihilation of the world. The gods recognize his dangerousness, chain him to a rock with a ruse, and sink him deep into the bottom of the earth. The wolf is shackled for a long time, until eventually, at the twilight of the gods, he breaks his chains and devours Odin. Odin's son Widar kills Fenrir, but it is too late, the Allfather of the Gods falls and, with him, the order of the world.

Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor
Generally made from cattle or goat horn, and used as a drinking vessel in many cultures across different time periods, the drinking horn held great significance, especially for ceremonies. A particularly popular drinking container through the early Middle Ages in Scandinavia, it enjoyed mentions in both the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda. The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved motif of Mjölnir. Mjölnir (= the grinder or crusher) is the mighty hammer of Thor, the Norse god of thunder and second-highest deity after his father Odin. In Germanic mythology, Mjölnir was forged by the dwarf Brokkr and, once thrown, would never miss its target. It was with this very hammer that Thor defeated the giants who incessantly threatened the Vanir and the Æsir pantheons. Nowadays, Thor's hammer is a popular motif for jewellery, talismans and decorative items. It is also a symbol of paganism within a Christian environment.

Odin rides Sleipnir
Generally made from cattle or goat horn, and used as a drinking vessel in many cultures across different time periods, the drinking horn held great significance, especially for ceremonies. A particularly popular drinking container through the early Middle Ages in Scandinavia, it enjoyed mentions in both the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda. Although fragments of Viking Age horns are rarely recovered on archaeological digs, the number of preserved metal horn fittings lead to assume that their use was much more widespread than the actual horn finds indicate.
The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved motif of Odin riding his legendary eight-legged horse Sleipnir (or Sleipner). The design is based on the 8th century picture stone which was found near Tjängvide on the island of Gotland, Sweden, and is now on display at the Swedish history museum (Statens historiska museum, also known as Historiska museet) in Stockholm. Although the motifs depicted on the Tjängvide image stone still leave room for interpretation to this day, the warrior on a steed featured on the right in the stone’s upper field is usually identified by most scholars as being the Norse Allfather of the Gods sitting atop Sleipnir.

Valknut

The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved valknut symbol framed by a sequence of runes. The valknut, a symbol that consists of three interlocked triangles, appears on a wide variety of archaeological finds assigned to the Germanic peoples. While its true meaning remains a matter of speculation to date, some experts tend to believe that it may be associated to Odin, the Allfather of the Gods in Norse mythology. It has now found its place in modern culture, gracing many of piece of jewellery, talisman, or decorative object, and is particularly popular with the adherents of Heathenry, also known as Germanic Neopaganism (for example Ásatrú followers).
Whether in a modern home, or for re-enactment purposes in a medieval / Viking setting, this rustic, highly decorative drinking vessel will make for a true eye-catcher on any dining table.

The drinking horn we offer here is hand-crafted from cattle horn, polished, and adorned with an engraved vegvísir framed by a sequence of runes. The vegvísir (way finder) is a magic symbol or a so-called sigil (galdrastafir) of Icelandic origin. An actual representation of this symbol features for the first time in the Icelandic Huld Manuscript by Geir Vigfússon from 1860, a collection of runes / spells and sigils. There it says:
If this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known.
Although the vegvísir is often referred to as a "Viking compass" nowadays, there is no evidence of it actually being used by the Norsemen in the Viking Age (a good 8 to 10 centuries before the manuscript was written). Nevertheless, it remains a meaningful symbol today. While the adherents of Heathenry, also known as Germanic Neopaganism, interpret it as a representation of the nine worlds of Norse mythology, it is often used in modern everyday life (for example in the form of a pendant or talisman) as a symbol for guidance in the figurative sense, intended to help its bearer weather the storms that life brings along the way, even on unfamiliar paths.
