Swimming Dragon Yanone, Japanese Arrowhead

Product information "Swimming Dragon Yanone, Japanese Arrowhead"

Swimming Dragon Yanone, Japanese Arrowhead

This Japanese arrowhead (Yanone) is faithfully reproduced from an original museum piece.

The Japanese arrowheads called Yajiri or Yanone had many uses and shapes. Some were strictly utilitarian while others were beautifully pierced and decorated and used primarily for presentations and temple offerings. It is said that a samurai had a quiver of 26 arrows (Ya) and one of them, called the Kabura-Ya or Whistling Arrow, was only used if the battle was lost. Most pieces fall into one of several broad groupings. The Swimming Dragon offered here falls into the barbed pattern. These shapes are usually very ornamental in form but can be terribly efficient. These arrowheads can vary in length from 2.5 cm to 16 cm and most of them have saw-cut areas. These arrowheads, either singly or in groups, are outstanding collectibles and are sure to be much talked about items in your collection.
